Watershed Gets $1,875 for Fans
Little Rock, Ark. – Qualifying
Entergy Arkansas, Inc. customers having trouble paying their electric bill can
get some relief, thanks to the generosity of Entergy Arkansas customers,
employees, retirees and shareholders. Other customers can beat the heat with box
fans donated by Entergy Arkansas.
Today the Power to Care fund received
a check for $156,403 from Entergy Arkansas in the lobby of the Entergy Arkansas
offices at 9th and Louisiana in downtown Little Rock.
Power to Care is a program created 27
years ago under the name Project Deserve. The name was changed last year to
Power to Care. The fund exists as a safety net for elderly and handicapped
customers during times of financial crisis. The money is applied toward a
balance owed on an Entergy Arkansas account. For information on where one may
apply for Power to Care assistance, contact Rosalie Tripp at Southern Good Faith
Fund at 870-535-6233 ext. 12. The fund is administered by the Southern Good
Faith Fund, a non-profit subsidiary of Southern Bancshares.
In 2008 Power to Care helped 2,627
customers out of a bind with funds totaling $455,000. In the last three years,
more than 1.5 million dollars have been distributed through the program, helping
8,635 families.
The money distributed by Project
Deserve was donated by Entergy Arkansas employees mostly through payroll
deduction; customers, usually by adding a dollar or more onto each electric bill
payment; retirees; and Entergy shareholders via a company match of all new
customer contributions (up to $500,000) and all employee contributions.
Also today, Entergy Arkansas
presented a donation of $1,875 to Watershed Human and Community Development
Agency. Watershed will use the money to buy box fans to give away to its
constituents who either have no air conditioning or will use the fans to augment
their air conditioning and lower their energy bills.
